Microsoft Outlook for Apple Mac Crashes on starting

Background

Apple Mac High Sierra version 10.13.6 (all updates current, and clean restart)

Office version 16.19 Stable

Start Outlook, after a minute, Microsoft Error and Outlook fails to start

Resolution:

Remove Office for Mac applications

1. Open Finder > Applications.
2. Command +click to select all of the Office for Mac applications.
3. Ctrl+click an application you selected and click Move to Trash.

Remove files from your user Library folder

To remove files from your user Library folder, you'll need to first set the Finder View options.

1. In Finder, press +Shift+h.
2. On the Finder menu at the top, click View > as List, and then click View > Show View Options.
3. In the View Options dialog box, select Show Library Folder and save.
4. Back in Finder, open Library > Containers and ctrl+click each of these folders and Move to Trash. Not all of these folders may be present.

   • com.microsoft.Excel
   • com.microsoft.netlib.shipassertprocess
   • com.microsoft.Office365ServiceV2
   • com.microsoft.Outlook
   • com.microsoft.Powerpoint

5. Warning: Outlook data will be removed when you move the three folders listed in this step to Trash. You should back up these folders before you delete them.
6. Click the back arrow to go back to the Library folder and open Group Containers. Ctrl+click each of these folders if present, and Move to Trash.

Remove from dock and restart

1. If you put any of the Office applications in your dock, go to each one and ctrl + click > Options > Remove from Dock.
2. Restart your Mac to complete the uninstall.

Extra steps:

Login to Office 365 Portal and Download Latest Stable Office for Mac

While logged in to Office 365 portal, check the installations, and verify that you have not exceeded the number of allowed installations

Install Office 365 for Mac

Start Word or Excel, check that office is activated correctly

If you have issues with Word or Excel with --- > "Looking for Licenses .. " spinning wheel for a very long time

Force the app to quit

Go to Keychain, and Remove Office entry in Keychain

Start Word or Excel, and re-activate Office

Once Office is activated and happy, then start Outlook and re-configure the Outlook Profile with your Office 365 credentials

Should "hopefully" work now :-)

If you want to reset the timer and again avail 120 days grace time here is the solution

The solution was to delete the REG_BINARY in

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\RCM\GracePeriod

Only leaving the default.

Note: you must take ownership and give admin users full control to be able to delete this key.

After a reboot the server should be working again for another 120 Days

From an elevated command prompt, determine the current edition name with the command :

DISM /online /Get-CurrentEdition

Make note of the edition ID, an abbreviated form of the edition name. Then run:

DISM /online /Set-Edition:<edition ID> /ProductKey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX /AcceptEula

providing the edition ID and a retail product key.

NOTE! The server will restart twice.

Quick solution/workaround:

Run PowerShell with admin privileges and execute the following commands. Replace myVPN with the name of your designated VPN connection.

Quickie blog post:

Issue: No Internet Access

Found an issue with Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 10130 and Shrewsoft VPN v2.2.2

Running on a Lenovo X200 , with Intel NIC.

The symptom was that there was no internet connectivity.

ipconfig showed only the bluetooth interface, ie Ethernet and WiFi interfaces were not showing.

The solution was to uninstall Shewsoft VPN Client

I have not installed the Shewsoft VPN client again, yet... Will post once I get a chance to re-install Shewsoft VPN Client.
